Levis/Trow Mounds Recreational Area is located 15 miles northeast of Black River Falls in the Clark County Forest. There are two trail heads available for this system. The first is off of Hwy 95, providing a small gravel parking lot with pit toilets. This trail head will get you started on the Warmup single track or double track. The second trailhead is located 1-2 miles, north off of Hwy 95 on Fisher Avenue. There is a generous amount of parking here as well as a large Chalet with water, pit toilets, pavilion, picnic tables, and even cushy recliners. This trail head will get you started on the easier Test Track with the ability to jump onto several single track trails.

We started our ride on the Warmup Singletrack and headed north on Select Cut, Dead Turkey and Lower Hermosa. The trails were well maintained and well marked with technical riding consisting of rocky, sandy, root filled trails. Once we entered Upper Hermosa, the climbing began, taking us higher into the sandstone bluffs. The technical climbs were a challenge, but the further we climbed, the more evident it became that the payoff would be worth it. We eventually hit the top of Upper Hermosa and entered one of the most spectacular single track trails in Wisconsin-Sidewinder. Sidewinder winds up and around the bluffs. In many areas we were riding on the cliff edge next to a 30 foot drop. We were hugged by the sand stone cliffs on the inside of the trail, jutting up and at times out and over our heads. The ride up was incredible, but the view from the top was nothing short of spectacular. Overlooking the 133,000 acre County Forest from 300 feet above, the scenery was beautiful, inspiring an overwhelming sense of awe. As Wisconsin natives, we can sometime forget why we love it here. If you ever need a reminder, I recommend this ride.

The rest of the system was a great technical ride with several climbs and fast descents. More spectacular scenery was had on Clarence.

This was an incredible trail system all around. Well maintained, well marked, great flow, technical, aerobically challenging, great facilities and spectacular scenery. Our hats are off to the members of the Neillsville Area Trail Association (N.A.T.A.) for all of their hard work in creating and maintaining this system that has quickly made it to the very top of our list of favorite rides.
