Mountain bikers for many years, brothers, Mark and Gary Barden grew up in Wisconsin and have lived here for most of their lives. For both brothers, riding has developed into an avid hobby and a slight addiction which in order to be fed, has to be maintained consistently.
In the summer of 2006, deciding to branch out, they broke away from their respective local bike trails and looked for other places to ride. They found many trails that were technically challenging, fun to ride, and beautiful to look at; all in Wisconsin. January 2007, they decided to create Fat Tire Guides, an online company whose mission is to document Wisconsin mountain bike single track trails though photography, video, and GPS data and deliver it visually through the internet offering something innovative, informative, and fun for the mtb community.
At the launch of the site in early July, the brothers had traveled over 3000 miles and documented eight trails, from Blue Mounds State Park near Madison to Smokin Spoke north of Rhinelander and a few in between. "Documenting the trails is a monumental task and takes a great deal of our time, but the variety of trails we’ve ridden and the people we've met along the way have made it worth it.”- Gary
We hope you enjoy what we've put together.
Get out and ride.
